PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject methacrylic copolymer that has excellent optical properties and is suppressed in fluctuation of the copolymerization composition by subjecting methyl methacrylate and other methacrylic monomers to bulk or solution polymerization at a specific polymer content at a specific polymerization temperature to form a copolymer composition and then removing volatile substances therefrom. ;SOLUTION: Methyl methacrylate and other methacrylic monomers are bulk- or solution-copolymerized at the polymerization temperature satisfying the formula: 0.7βi/α1.3 (i is 1-n) in which the monomer consumption rate constant on the polymerization reaction KP is defined as RP=KP[M](RK)0.5 (RP is the monomer consumption rate; [M] is the monomer concentration; RK is the decomposition rate of the polymerization initiator) and the KP value in the single polymerization of methyl methacrylate is represented by α and the KP values in the single polymerizations of the other methacrylate monomers M1, M2 through Mn (n is an integer) are represented by β1, β2 through βn, so that polymer content may becomes 30-70 wt.% in the raw materials including the mixture of methyl methacrylate and other methacrylic monomers Mi and the radical polymerization initiator.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
