PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent any affect of background brain potentiality from being received by estimating the intracerebral dipole values of the background brain potentiality itself, based on the potentiality values resulted by subtracting those generated therefrom from those measured. ;SOLUTION: The skull shape sensor 1 reads out both the X-ray CT/MRI cerebral tomogram. The brain potential collector 2 collects all the brain potentials via recording electrodes arranged on the human scalp. The computer 3 saves a variety of information both from the skull shape sensor 1 and the cerebral potential collector 2 into the sub-storage 4 to prepare both the skull shape data and the three-dimensional coordinates values of the recording electrodes. The computer also calculates the intracerebral dipole assumptions of the background brain potentials, as well as the transfer matrix in a 4-layer structure. The intracerebral dipole assumptions are calculated from the brain potentials remained after eliminating all the background brain potentials from all the measured brain potentials.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
