An amplifier is provided which uses AC biasing to linearise the operation of the amplifier whilst maintaining good DC power efficiency. In order to prevent the AC biasing signal from being reflected back into the amplifier 14, 16 from an output filter 6 attached to the output of the amplifier, thereby reducing the lifetimes of the amplifier's active devices, the AC biasing signal is coupled with the input signal in a quadrature coupler 10 before being fed to the amplifier. A similar quadrature coupler 12 then receives the amplified signal, and acts to reject the AC biasing signal from the amplified input signal, so that only the amplified input signal is fed to the output filter. The rejected AC biasing signal is then dissipated in a reject load 8 attached to another output port of the output quadrature coupler.
