Lockable joint for movable arm of surgical operating table has inner riser with annular surface urging ring of locking balls into recesses of locking rings
Lockable joint (10) has two axially arranged locking rings (31, 32) having recesses (34, 36) around inner surfaces. Inner riser having inclined annular surface is provided within rings. This surface engages ring of locking balls (60) and, when moved axially, urges balls into recesses of locking rings to lock them against relative rotation. Inner riser is actuated by cam (70), operated by manually-rotatable knob and in unlocked state, locking balls are received in annular channel containing foam.
