Giving bioavailable methionine esters or amides, methionine hydroxy analogue esters or their salts to cows, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) rations comprising a grain, a concentrate and a supplement containing the above esters/amides; and (2) a unit dosage form comprising a 1-12C alkyl ester of methionine or its hydroxy analogue for delivering a single day's dosage of the active ingredient(s) to a cow.
