The resin is polymerized and hardened by rays from a source (14). An Independent claim is included for corresponding equipment. The section (10a, 10b) is wrapped by the band (11). Irradiation is controlled (16). Preferred features: The resin is transparent, at least before being photo-polymerized. In the equipment, the source emits from infra red to ultraviolet. An imaging system observes the section after wrapping and before hardening. Radiographic equipment images the broken section. In the method, an intentionally-weakened region of the sheath, assists eventual removal.
