Vehicle Rear view monitoring system is able to divide the rear view image recorded with a camera into near and far zones so that both vehicle flows and the near rear area of the vehicle can be viewed and evaluated simultaneously
System has a camera (1) that records an image of the rear of a vehicle, a CPU (4a-1) for detection of an optical flow (movement of other vehicles) by comparison of consecutive camera images and danger estimation (4a-2) (if another vehicle is coming too close) and a magnifying recorder (2) for enlargement of the lower part of the camera image for use for other purposes to optical flow detection. The enlarged lower part of the image is used with another device (20) for recognition of the white lines of lane markings and for sub-division of a displayed rear view image into a near. magnified zone and a far unmagnified, zone.
