X-ray intensifier screen assembly has phosphor layers containing a fluorescent dyestuff or pigment for absorbing part of the phosphor emission and emitting light of different wavelength. A radiographic intensifier screen assembly comprises front and back intensifier screens, each comprising a support bearing phosphor layers of a phosphor dispersed in a binder resin. At least some of the phosphor layers contain a fluorescent dyestuff or pigment which absorbs part of the light emitted from the phosphor and which emits light of different wavelength. The front screen support is light reflective and the back screen support is light absorbent.
