The suction/blowing system (5), to gather and deliver loose grass cuttings and sweepings and the like, has a number of radial blower fan blades distributed round a hub (13) at a blower fan wheel (6). It is within a housing (9) which matches the contour of the rotating blades. An axial entry (11) takes in the loose material with its carrier air flow. The outlet is at a housing mantle wall, at right angles to the entry (11), and at a tangent for the air/material mixture. The fan blower (5) rotates at a lower speed than conventional fan wheels, on a constant air flow volume, to give a lower surface speed at the outer radial ends of the fan blades (12).
