The piston for an internal combustion motor is of a light metal alloy, especially for a motor with fuel injection. It has a piston ring field (10) around the piston head (8), a piston rod (12) and a recessed section (24) at the piston head towards the combustion zone in the cylinder, defined by an edge (26) around it. The recessed zone edge (26) is reinforced by a closed aluminum component (20), produced by powder metal metallurgy and welded or soldered to the piston blank. The piston head (8) is then machined to the final shape and dimensions.
