Incorporation of a cationic surface active agent of the fatty acid aminopropyl PG-dimonium chloride phosphate type into compositions containing dye precursors and/or dyes for dyeing keratinic fibres. Compositions for coloring keratinic fibres, especially human hair, containing at least one dye precursor and/or at least one dye, and at least one surface active agent of formula (I); y = a whole number 0-2 x = a whole number 1-3 x + y = 3 M = H, one equivalent of an alkali(ne earth) metal cation, an ammonium cation or a 1-4 C alkyl residue which may be substituted with one or more OH groups B = one equivalent of a physiologically acceptable anion R = a residue of formula (II) ; z = a whole number 1-4 R1 and R2 independently = 1-4 C alkyl which may be substituted by one or more OH groups or an acyl group A = -O-CH2-CH2-CH2-, -O-CH2-CH2- or -O-CH2-CHOH-CH2- R3 = (a) a branched or unbranched saturated 8-18 C acyl residue or (b) a branched or unbranched, mono- or poly- unsaturated 8-16 C acyl residue
