Use of hyperforin for treating cancer, or in topical compositions optionally together with hypericin for treating e.g. inflammatory skin disease, skin aging or bacterial skin infections
Hyperforin (I) is used for treating cancer and/or precancerous states. Topical creams or ointments containing (I) and optionally hypericin (II), preferably in the form of a St. John's wort extract, are new. The use of hyperforin (I) is claimed for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of cancer diseases and/or precancerous states. Independent claims are included for: (1) topical ointments or creams containing at least 15 mu g/ml (preferably 1-20) mg/ml (I) and optionally at least 15 mu g/ml of hypericin (II); and (2) the preparation of the above ointments or creams.
