The interpolation error correction method uses a mathematical correction model for correcting the inaccuracy n the absolute position obtained from sine and cosine signals (SS,CC) provided by a pair of spaced sensor elements (4,5), scanning the incremental markings (2) along an incremental measuring rule (1), using an arc tangent function. The correction model uses an elliptical equation with 5 parameters, determined from the maxima and minima of the signal amplitudes for the directly preceding increment intervals (3).
