The sealing ring (28) seals a gap (32) against a pressure medium at a cylindrical outer surface of a body and a facing cylindrical shrouding wall surface, where the pressure is higher on one side than at the other. The sealing ring (28) is fitted into a groove (29) at the piston (22). The ratio of the radial wall thickness (t) of the unslitted sealing ring (28) to its outer dia. (D) is expressed as:
