摘要
A process and reactor assembly produce a gaseous product, especially phthalic anhydride (PSA), by the controlled partial oxidation of o-xylene or naphthalene or a mixture of the two. The oxygen required for the process is abstracted from air (9), and also serves as a carrier gas. A process and reactor assembly produce a gaseous product, especially phthalic anhydride (PSA), by the controlled partial oxidation of o-xylene or naphthalene or a mixture of the two. The oxygen required for the process is abstracted from air (9), and also serves as a carrier gas. The compressed air (9) is laden with pre-heated ingredients and released into a reactor (2) incorporating a heating stage (11). On reaching the reaction trigger temperature, the mixture is released through a series of alternating catalytic (15, 27, 29, 31, 33) oxidation (I-VI) and cooling (21, 28, 30, 32) stages. The product PSA gas (10) is then released from the reactor housing (2) for desublimation or condensation.
