The method of generating a compensator current-setpoint space vector (ics(t)) for a controlled active filter (8) which is coupled parallel to a non-linear and feedback load (2), involves initially determining a load-current-space vector (i(t)) and a load voltage-space vector (u(t)) from measured phase currents (iR (t)) and load phase voltages (uR(t)). Successive calculation of the equivalent conductances (GT(k.deltat)) is carried out in dependency of the ascertained load-current- and load-voltage-space-vector. A mains current- setpoint space vector (iss(t)) is calculated by a model network (36) consisting of an equivalent conductance (GT(k.deltat)), model-resistance, model-inductance and by a model-capacitor and the ascertained load-voltage space vector (u(t)). A compensation current-setpoint space vector (ics(t)) is then calculated by subtracting the ascertained load- current space vector from the ascertained mains current - setpoint space vector.
