Full densification of Si3N4/SiC composites (I) comprises liquid phase sintering under hot pressing or gas pressure sintering of a powder mixture comprising 92 wt.% amorphous Si-C-N powder (obtained by pyrolysis of poly(hydromethyl)silazane) and a sinter additive mixture of 6 wt.% Yb2O3 and 2 wt.% Y2O3.
