An assembly for measuring the metabolic interaction between aerobic and anaerobic cell systems, is new. A process and assembly registers the metabolic interaction between aerobic and anaerobic cell systems. The assembly consists of a co-culture chamber (2) which is sub-divided by a permeable separation wall, (3) into two chambers (4, 5). The permeable wall (3) surface directed to one wall, (4) has aerobic cell culture components. The other surface of the permeable wall (3) has anaerobic components. The first compartment (4) has an anaerobic gas supply (7a, 7b), while the second compartment (5) has an aerobic gas supply. The movement and migration of substances through the permeable wall is monitored and analyzed in both directions.
