Electromechanical steering adjuster, especially for steer-by-wire use in cars has switchable clutch which upon occurrence of fault in steering system connects steering wheel in positive locking fashion to controlled member
An electromechanical steering adjuster, especially for a steer-by-wire use in cars, has an electronic open/closed loop control system (1) that generates at least steering signals for an electrical servomotor (2) which acts upon a controlled member (3) of a wheel steering unit. A switchable clutch (4) is provided which upon the occurrence of a fault in the steering system in reaction to a signal generated by the control system, connects the steering wheel in positive locking fashion to the controlled member. The controlled member is the toothed rod of a rack steering unit and the switchable clutch is located in the steering shaft between the steering wheel and a steering wheel pinion meshing with the toothed rod.
