Solid comprises mesomorphic polyelectrolyte complex(es) (I) obtained by liquid phase reaction of polyelectrolyte with ionic surfactant, casting and tempering. Solid comprises mesomorphic polyelectrolyte complex(es) (I) obtained by liquid phase reaction of (a) polymeric and/or oligomeric organic, anionic polyelectrolyte(s) with polymeric and/or oligomeric organic cationic polyelectrolyte(s) (II) and/or cationic surfactant(s) or (b) (II) with anionic surfactant(s) in (non)stoichiometric ratio; then casting the liquid on a substrate or in a mold, allowing it to solidify and tempering. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) films, foils, fibers, fabrics, moldings, coating compositions, adhesives and pigments containing solid (I); and (B) the preparation of solid (I).
