The arrangement has a fast-axis collimator (6) for collimating the laser beam in a second plane perpendicular to the emitter (5) plane and an active coating. The collimator is segmented and has two individual collimators in series adjusted to form sub-beams (10) that are collimated in the fast axis with diverging axes and offset at an input to a multiple prism arrangement to converge the sub-beams to be at least approximately parallel. An Independent claim is also included for a diode laser.
