High elasticity modulus glass and lithium oxide-containing glass-ceramic, e.g. for hard disk substrates, have specified silicon, boron, alkali and alkaline earth metal, zirconium, titanium, niobium and lanthanum oxide contents
High elasticity modulus glass and lithium oxide-containing glass-ceramic materials contain specified silicon, boron, alkali and alkaline earth metal, zirconium, titanium, niobium and lanthanum oxide content. A novel high E modulus glass has the composition (by wt., on oxide basis) 17-34% SiO2, 1-8% B2O3, 0-8% Al2O3, 0 to less than 2% Li2O, 0.5-10% Na2O, 10-20% MgO, 4-12% CaO, 14.5-25% TiO2, 1-8% ZrO2, 0.5-4.5% Nb2O5, 5.5-15% La2O3, 0-8% Ce2O3, = 16% La2O3 + Ce2O3 and optionally usual amounts of refiners. An Independent claim is also included for a novel high E modulus glass-ceramic having the above composition except for an Li2O content of 2-10 % Li2O.
