In a process for performing chemical or biological reactions in a vessel, fitted with a stirrer and filled with liquid medium in contact with solid particles on which the react occurs, the new feature is that the particles are enclosed in a container permeable to reaction medium. An Independent claim is also included for a container for retaining solid particles, consisting of a cylindrical casing, a sieve at the base of the cylinder and auxiliary elements that define a free space between the base of the reaction vessel and the underside of the container.
