It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus in which the repetition rate of a cue-switched pulse is automatically adjusted according to the change in the intensity of the pumping energy in order to uniformly stabilize the energy of the cue-switched pulse regardless of the temporal change of the pumping energy. The apparatus of the present invention automatically adjusts the repetition rate of cue-switched pulses by using a characteristic in which the intensity of light emitted from a flash lamp used as a laser pumping source in a solid state laser is proportional to the intensity of pumping energy. While the (active medium) is excited by the flash lamp, the pumping energy is made constant by varying the repetition rate of the cue-switched pulses according to the intensity of light emitted from the flash lamp.
