A dioxin generation depressant capable of repressing dioxins generated by an incinerating treatment of waste is disclosed, which depressant is characterized by being a porous substance comprising at least one basis selected from the group consisting of calcined dolomite having magnesium oxide and calcium carbonate as main components and dolomite and a binding agent. A method for the production of the dioxin generation depressant, which is characterized by mixing at least one basis selected from the group consisting of calcined dolomite having magnesium oxide and calcium carbonate as main components and dolomite with a volatile component and a binding agent at a prescribed ratio, forming the produced mixture in a prescribed shape, and calcining the shaped mixture. The dolomite is procurable inexpensively and stably in a large quantity. By a simple procedure using the dolomite, the generation of dioxins can be repressed.
