The method involves multiplication (3.15) of the raw radar data by a phase function (H5) of the azimuth Doppler frequency and target distance, in which a desired scaling factor is applied. An azimuth modulation by the phase function is adapted to that of a reference distance so that its distance-dependence is eliminated. A quadratic phase modulation in azimuth is performed so that in order to achieve azimuth processing with very high phase accuracy, the azimuth frequency modulation is exactly linear.
