An aqueous liquid laundry detergent having germicidal efficacy comprising: a) 1-40 parts per weight of one or more anionic surfactant compositions selected from alkyethercarboxylates and alkylethersulfonates; b) 1-25 parts by weight of one or more quaternary ammonium surfactant composition c) 3-50 parts by weight of one or more nonionic surfactant compositions selected from linear and secondary alcohol alkoxylates, alkylphenol ethoxylates, alkyl polyglycosides, amine oxides, alkanolamides d) 0-10 parts by weight of one or more anionic co-surfactant compositions selected from alkysulfates, alkylsulfonates, alkylethersulfates, alkylarylsulfonates, alkylarylethersulfates present in a proportion not exceeding one half of the weight of the one or more quaternary ammonium surfactant compositions having germicidal properties; wherein the weight rations of B:A are at 1:2 or greater with the remaining balance to 100 parts by weight of water. Further claimed is a process for the preparation of these detergents.
