The invention provides compositions and processes for the treatment of amyloidogenic diseases. Such processes require the administration of an agent that induces a beneficial immune response against an amyloid deposit in a patient. The processes are particularly useful for the prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of Alzheimer's disease. In such processes, a suitable agent is peptide A 225 or an antibody thereof.
