Refers to this invention to a process to forecast the microstructure in which a given cast iron race will solidify that comprises the steps of: (a) collecting a sample of the cast iron race which is endowed with a W predetermined weight; (b) add the sample to a sample vessel containing a quantity of a neutralizing agent, preferably tellurium, which is sufficient to change a w quantity of grey cast iron into white cast iron; c) register a cooling curve at the centre of the treated iron sample thus obtained;(d) determine the local maximum value T~(max) of the cooling curve obtained at step (c);(e) predict whether the cast iron race will solidify as SGI, CGI, molten iron or grey by using the information obtained in step (d).
