"END CAP SET FOR APPLICATION TO AN ELECTROCHEMICAL CELL, THE RESPECTIVE ELECTROCHEMICAL CELL AND CURRENT INTERRUPTION DEVICE FOR PROTECTIVE SUPPLY TO A DEVICE THAT IS POWERED WITH ELECTRIC CURRENT". A current interruption mechanism for electrochemical cells is described. A thermally activated current interruption mechanism (38) is integrated into an end cap assembly (10) for an electrochemical cell. The heat-response mechanism preferably includes a free floating bimetallic disc (40) or a meltable material (175) to interrupt an electrical path within the end cap assembly. The end cap assembly also includes a pressure interrupting current interruption mechanism (48). The pressure-response mechanism is activated to interrupt electrical contact between a diaphragm (70) and a plate (80) within the end cap assembly (10) to prevent current from passing through the cell, and may include a diaphragm (70) which breaks when extreme gas pressure builds up.
