PURPOSE: To obtain an organoclay thickener which can thicken a natural vegetable oil system with good efficiency by constituting it of a reaction product of a smectite-type clay with a specified organic cationic substance. ;CONSTITUTION: A smectite-type clay (A) such as montmorillonite, bentonite, beidellite or hectorite is reacted with (B) an organic cationic substance derived from residues of a natural vegetable oil substantially the same as the natural vegetable oil to be thickened and used in an amount of about 75 to 150% of the cation exchange capacity of the clay. The obtained reaction product is used as a thickener for a natural vegetable oil based ink or the like. Component B is suitably an organic cation derived from a residue of a vegetable oil such as soybean oil or safflower oil and being a quaternary ammonium salt, a phosphonium salt, a sulfonium salt, or the like. It is also possible to add an organic anion derived from a compound such as stearic acid or palmitic acid to the thickener.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
