PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously teach not only the meaning of a retrieved word but also the pronunciation by recognizing a handwriting word when the desired English word to be retrieved is inputted by handwriting, displaying the meaning thereof on a liquid crystal screen and outputting the right pronunciation from a speaker. SOLUTION: When the desired English word to be retrieved is written by handwriting on a display device 2 with a pen 9, handwriting character recognizing software discriminates the inputted English word from handwriting data. Retrieval software finds this English word out of a dictionary and displays the meaning of the English word on the display device 2. When a speaker mark is clicked, the right pronunciation of native speaker registered in advance is outputted from a speaker 5. When a user pronounces by himself/herself while hearing the pronunciation of native speaker from the dictionary, this pronunciation is fetched through a microphone 4 into a system and the difference from the pronunciation of native speaker is reported by the judgement of voice comparing software.
