PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic hypertext generating device capable of automatically generating a document having a hypertext consisting of plural images or documents having link information which can be linked even by a person unfamiliar to a computer. SOLUTION: This automatic hypertext generating device 1 is provided with a format analysis program 43 for identifying and segmenting characters and graphics constituting a title and text, a text conversion program 44 for converting the pictures of the characters into text data, a keyword retrieval program 45 for retrieving characters expressing the title from the text, and a hypertext generating program 46 for generating a hypertext having link information linked with the page of the title by selecting the title in another page included in the text which can be retrieved by a title retrieving means. Thus, a hypertext having link information can be automatically prepared from the image information.
