PURPOSE: To provide the subject life-prolonging agent for a cut flower, containing a water-soluble organic peroxide such as peracetic acid, performic acid or monoperphthalic acid and capable of prolonging the life of a cut flower merely by safe and ready pretreatment without changing water or without further adding any chemical. ;CONSTITUTION: This subject life-prolonging agent for a cut flower contains a water-soluble organic peroxide (e.g. peracetic acid, performic acid, monoperphthalic acid, persuccinic acid, permaleic acid or pertrifluorohydrochloric acid and especially preferably peracetic acid). The life of a cut flower can be prolonged by immersing the cut flower in an aqueous solution of the above-mentioned organic peroxide for 1min to 24hr and subsequently setting the flower in city water. The concentration of the aqueous solution of the water-soluble organic peroxide is preferably about 0.001 to 50wt.%, especially about 0.005 to 20wt.%. The water-soluble organic peroxide may be mixture obtained by blending hydrogen peroxide or a peroxide capable of generating hydrogen peroxide in an aqueous solution with an activator capable of reacting therewith so as to generate an organic peroxide.
