The invention concerns a method for controlling a metrology equipment for the quality of digital television signals comprising a data stream arranged in frames. The invention is characterised in that it consists in the following steps: (a) selecting in the data stream a reference temporal signal (PCR); (b) generating a digital clock signal (MTS) timed at a predetermined frequency and whereof the phase is automatically controlled on the basis of said reference temporal signal; (c) transmitting at least data bits of the clock signal (MTS) to the measuring equipment synchronised with a video frame synchronisation analog signal (STV), decoded from the data stream to generate a signal triggering the measurements.
