Receiver for nonlinear signal for detecting original data from binary data stream input signal enables models of sampled signals to be produced from preceding, current and future bit data, access time phase correction
The receiver has an analogue-to-digital converter or ADC (100) for sampling input values according to sampling time phases and digitizing the data. A model generation stage (106) estimates the channel characteristic of the sampled signal from selected sampled values and a data transition value. A time recovery stage (108) controls the ADC's sampling time phases using a phase gradient equal to the difference between the values for each tapping symmetrical to that of the model generation stage. The error characteristic of the ADC output stage is compensated by a correction stage (102) and a detector (104) converts the correction stage output signal into a digital value to obtain the original signal.
