Measured CO2 consumption is correlated with net photosynthesis in a controlled procedure, compensating results for effects of constantly varying environmental influences, by regressional analysis between CO2 consumption and net photosynthesis (NPS). On this basis, recalculation of CO2 demand and net photosynthesis is effected as necessary. Preferred Features: In terms of the net photosynthesis from CO2 consumption, regions of various stages of vitality are determined. By comparison of the graphical correlation between determined, uninfluenced NPS and CO2 consumption with the determined stages of vitality, quantified statements on the state of vitality of the types of wood are made.
