The lower portion (12) of the guide bar (9) of the floating closure unit (1) is provided with radially protruding, in the main longitudinally running fin elements which are made of a material corresponding to that of the guide bar. Preferred Features: The fin elements for the guide bar (9) are attached to a sleeve which can be fixed to the guide bar at various levels. The fin elements run parallel to the axis of the guide bar. Alternatively they run helically in a direction producing a vortex motion opposite to the direction of earth rotation. The guide bare fin elements consist of a refractory material, preferably a refractory concrete with a grain size up to 6 mm. The bar and fin elements are joined to one another by means of a bonding material of epoxy resin and alumina. The height of the fin elements in the radial can vary in a certain specified manner along the length of the guide bar. The tapping channel (4) is provided with ring (30) with inlet channels (31, 32) and outlet openings (33, 34) for a flushing gas such as, for example, argon. Such a flushing ring can be made up of circular segments which together with the melt outlet hole can be integrated into the hole block of a casting ladle, for example.
