The method involves dialling a special service call number in the intelligent network from a mobile telephone to drive the call management menu; transmitting the subscriber settings to an SCP with standard or prevailing procedures to identify the PCS subscriber using his GSM Calling Line Identification; altering but not activating the subscriber profile in the SCP after identification; transmitting a CONNECT message from the SCP to an SSP in a wide area switch; sending the call to the SCP again with a Line Trigger; transmitting a CONTINUE message with an event detection point from the SCP to the subscriber switch SSP; changing the system data base using the transmitted data, followed by generation of a RELEASE COMPLETE message to the SCP to activate the change to the subscriber profile
