A water absorbent (1) for dental porcelain building up made of PVAt porous material and provided on the front and rear surfaces thereof with sponge layers (3, 5) having flexibility and elasticity in a moist condition. A method of building up a porcelain, wherein water-containing dental porcelain (11) built up on a cast crown (13) is excited to allow water content to ooze out and the sponge layers (3, 5) of the water absorbent (1) is pressed against the surface of the porcelain (11) to absorb the oozed out water content and shape the surface of the porcelain (11). Water content oozed out from the porcelain is simply and positively removed by condensation to improve a building up work efficiency.
