Pseudomonas putida JLR11, a bacterium which uses 2,4,6- trinitrotoluene (TNT), and its use in the biological elimination of TNT. Pseudomonas putida JLR11 is a bacterium capable of using TNT as a source of C, or as a source of N, or as a source of C and N, under anaerobic conditions. The biological elimination of TNT comprises placing water, effluent and soils requiring treatment in contact with a culture of the said bacterium. This process is suitable for the biological removal of TNT present in wastewater, industrial effluents and contaminated soils, and for destroying surpluses of TNT.
