The method consists, during the opening or closing of the apparatus, in particular a circuit breaker that is electrically insulated, to: i) to record a signal (4a1) representative of the temporal evolution of the pressure in the extinguishing chamber with the aid of a sensor placed on the outside of the interrupting chamber and mounted so as to communicate with the gas under pressure in this chamber, ii) to record a signal (4a2) representative of the temporal evolution of the movable contact with the aid of a sensor placed on the outside of the interrupting chamber and mounted so as to detect the displacement of an operating rod, iii) to compare the preceding signals with the corresponding signals (2a1, 2a2) representative of a reference operation of the high voltage electrical apparatus for checking the correct operation or to detect a malfunction of the electrical equipment, in particular, the blocking of a valve in the interrupting chamber of the circuit breaker.
