PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the possibility of a winding mistake by forming a detecting coil by use of an optical fiber ribbon. ;SOLUTION: This method comprises a step of arranging a plurality of optical fibers 1, 2,...N in parallel to each other to form a flat array, and a step of sealing the optical fibers into a soft material while keeping the mutually parallel, relation to form an optical fiber ribbon 10 having a pair of ribbon end parts. The ribbon 10 is spirally wound, and the end parts of the ribbon are mutually branched and connected to form an optical fiber coil having a clockwise input lead wire and a counterclockwise input lead wire. In the most simple embodiment of this structure, the fiber end parts to be branched are constituted in such a manner that one end is displaced in the cross direction by one fiber to the other end. In a more preferable embodiment, the branching order of the fiber end parts to be branched is rearranged so as to provide a quadrupole distribution along the axial direction of the coil.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
