PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To coil a hot rolled strip metal at a high speed by correcting the standby gap setting value between an upper and lower pinchrolls in the case of making the tip end of the succeeding stock pass through pinchrolls based on the wear quantity of the pinchroll. ;SOLUTION: In the pinchroll 9, the pressing force is generated by pressing the upper side pinchroll 20 to the lower side pinchroll 21 with a hydraulic cylinder 25. The pressing force is detected with a pressing force detector 22. Also, the gap between pinchrolls is simultaneously measured with a pinchroll gap measuring device 26 installed to the hydraulic cylinder 25. The estimated operation of the wear quantity of the roll is executed with a pinchroll optimal gap arithmetic unit 27 based on the pinchroll gap field-proven value, the plate thickness of the coiled strip metal 1 and the pressing force of the pinchroll during control of the pressing force.
