PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject treating agent excellent in hydrophilic property and water resistant close adhesion by containing a specific polyvinyl alcohol. ;SOLUTION: This surface treating agent for a fin material of a heat exchanger made of aluminum contains a polyvinyl alcohol composed of a vinyl alcohol unit, a vinyl unit containing amide group and an aliphatic vinyl ester unit. The degree of polymerization of the above polyvinyl alcohol is 3,000-3,300, preferably 500-2,400, the degree of saponification is ≥90%, preferably ≥95%, and the content of the vinyl unit containing amide group is 2-12 mol.%, preferably 2.510 mol.%. The water soluble polymer of the above surface treating agent is used by applying the same on the surface of the fin material made of aluminum, and drying to form a film on the surface of the fin material for the heat exchanger made of aluminum.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
