The system has a navigation processor (2), with an associated base of cartographic data (3) and is adapted for delivery of guidance instructions to the user. Means (4), such as a video camera are provided to import images of the forward environment of the vehicle, means for analysis of these images (5) and means (7) for presenting such information to the user. The latter comprises a means for combining the guidance information with the data obtained about the forward surroundings in a user friendly manner or a display screen (8).
