A hot water vessel (1) is coupled into a circulation circuit (12) with a pump (9) coupled to a compact heat exchanger (7). The temperature in the vessel is monitored by a built-in sensor (25) coupled to a central controller (30). A further sensor is provided (H) in the return line (8). Water to be returned to drinking quality level is supplied (15) to the secondary circuit of the heat exchanger and is circulated by a pump (21). Temperature (18) and flow (19) sensors deliver inputs to the controller. The controller operates valves and pumps to ensure that the correct thermal cycle conditions are applied. ADVANTAGE - Provides hygienic processing of water.
