PURPOSE:To manufacture a dispersion strengthened metal of stable quality with prescribed componental ratios by melting a base metal and a dispersing material having specific gravity higher than that of the above, partitioning the settled dispersing material by an interrupting plate, executing degassing treatment, thereafter removing the interrupting plate and executing stirring. CONSTITUTION:An ingot 1 constituted of a base metal such as an Al alloy and a dispersing material of the grains or short fibers of SiC or the like having specific gravity higher than that of the above is melted in a crusible 2 to form the molten metal 3 of a dispersion strengthened metal. This molten metal 3 is left standing, and the dispersing material in the molten metal 3 is settled on the lower part of the crucible 2. Next, an interrupting plate 6 made of Al2O3 or the like is put in to the molten metal 3 to partition and interrupt the settling layer 4 of the dispersing material from the upper part layer 5 of the base metal. This upper part layer 5 is subjected to degassing treatment to improve the wattability between the base metal and dispersing material. After that, the above interrupting plate 6 is removed, and the molten metal 3 is stirred by a stirring member 7. In this way, the molten metal 3 is poured into a mold in the state where the dispersing material is uniformly dispersed to obtain a dispersion strengthened metal of good quality with certain componental ratios.
