PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing a chlorogallium phthalocyanine crystal easily convertible into a crystal form having excellent electrophotographic properties. ;CONSTITUTION: Gallium trichloride is reacted with phthalonitrile or diiminoisoindoline in a halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon. The obtained chlorogallium phthalocyanine is treated with a solvent selected from among amides, ketones, alcohols, esters, ethers, aromatic hydrocarbons, nitrogenous aromatic heterocyclic compounds, and trialkylamines. A chlorogallium phthalocyanine crystal obtained using an amide as the solvent gives an X-ray diffraction spectrum having an intense diffraction peak at a Bragg angle (2θ±0.2°) of 7.4° and is easily convertible into a crystal form having excellent electrophotographic properties.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
