PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an inorganic ultrathin film containing a fine particle layer of an inorganic compound having an arbitrary thickness in an arbitrary order. ;SOLUTION: This method for producing an inorganic ultrathin film is performed by alternatively dipping a solid carrier into a solution of a colloidal inorganic compound (e.g. a metal oxide) and a solution of an organic polymer ion having counter charge against the colloidal particle to form ultrathin films mutually laminated and fixed layers including the inorganic compound and the organic polymer ion respectively on the solid carrier. The thickness of the inorganic particle layer is regulated by changing the concentration of the inorganic colloidal particle in the colloidal solution. The thickness of the inorganic particle layer is also regulated by changing the colloidal particle diameter and/or the ionic strength of the colloidal solution of the inorganic compound. The inorganic ultrathin film containing the inorganic particular layer of the inorganic compound and having a uniform thickness is obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
